THINK BACK
Describe Briefly What you considered Graphic Design to be when you joined the course?
Before all these that I have undergone for a the past few years in graphic design, I thought that I was just here to learn how to draw, and maybe design some packaging design, while at the same time learning about how to do advertising through video. Besides that, I had also expected to learn some of the designing software like Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
Share Discuss any similarities and differences
To compare whether there are any similarities or differences from what I initially thought about graphic design, there are some notable one. As I first mentioned that what I thought about graphic design is that it is all about how to draw, and how to design a packaging or even advertisements, but after all these things that I've been through in the graphic design course, I learnt that it has so much more to offer like how to properly conduct the design project, from initial research, to completing the design, and why I design it that way. I would say it is more like a process, instead of picking up a drawing skill, and draw just for the sake of me liking it.
To talk about similarities between before and after this course, I would say the only similarity is that I did learn and pick up skills on using designing software like Photoshop, After Effect, In Design, and so much more.

Your Reflection
Describe briefly where these projects have been placed Describe what you think Graphic Design to be in your first year and how you learn what actually Graphic Design is today. Compare the similarities and differences.
I have given two projects in order to be placed in the categories, and they are my Diploma Major Project, whereby I created a Chinese Calligraphy package for the easy carrying by people who need them, and the other one is a brand that I created by myself whereby it is used to introduce myself. To categorize them, the first project is said to be categorized under the experimental and responsible design category whereas the second project is to be categorized under the experimental and discursive design.
PRAT A 200 WORD
For me, with my understanding of graphic design, it is a visual art and it is all around our life, all the while, for example, packaging of the foods, magazines, newspapers that we all read, and of course, advertisements. Not only nowadays, but for more than a century I supposed, marketing department in the companies are also using graphic design in order to attract their target customers, maybe from their products design, or even their website design so that it enables them to have a good market value in the business market. The best example that I would give is the design associated with the smartphones nowadays, like the iPhone. In the Tharp & Tharp’s Four Fields of Design, it is known that the iPhone’s design is also part of the commercial design. In other words, the design of the phone itself is driven by the market, it satisfies what the current market is all about. (Jr, 2009) In addition to that, graphic design can also be the thing that is used to help or serve one’s life to become easier, ones could have an easier life with a so-called responsible design from a product. (Jr, 2009) The best example I would say is Tupperware, whereby they have actually designed the bottle and on top of that, a bag whereby it can be used to carry the bottle by the users, it keeps the users hands free from grabbing anything and they may continue doing what they are doing with both of their hands while carrying the water bottle around them. Last but not least, for me, I would be really happy if I could utilize graphic design to convey a message to the public one day, this is when I found out about the book by Craig Oldham, In Loving Memory of Work: A Visual Record of the UK Miner’s Strike 1984-1985. In this book, the author used so many different types of design in order to bring out the story of the past event.
Part B 300 WORD
B.1 Describe briefly what you considered graphic design to be when you joined the course.
before all these that I have undergone for the past few years in graphic design, I thought that I was just here to learn how to draw, and maybe design some packaging design, while at the same time learning about how to do advertising through video. Besides that, I had also expected to learn some of the designing software like Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
B.2 Describe briefly where you have positioned your own projects.
For the Chinese Calligraphy box project, it is said to be positioned in the responsible and experimental design. This is because the box is created in order for the students that are learning Chinese Calligraphy to have a box that can carry whatever they need in order to learn it.
Whereas for the brand that I created as a tool to introduce myself, it is position in the experimental and discursive design. This is because I am using this opportunity to try to promote myself.
B.3 Reflect on any similarities or differences between
To compare whether there are any similarities or differences from what I initially thought about graphic design, there are some notable one. B.4 Consider where you have placed your current practice. Reflect on this by telling us what has become clearer and what has become less clear? Why is this? What might you do to explore further?
To say that what has become clearer and what has become less clear, I would say that as I’ve been this far, the thing that has become clearer to me would be what can I do as a graphic designer. This is because before all these, I thought that as a graphic designer, it is just basically drawing and presenting it to the public, but no, it’s not just that.
Thing that has become less clear to me is, I can’t really decide for myself on what should I do as a graphic designer after all these, as the fields or disciplines are so wide now.
B.5 Consider where you have placed your future practice. What are the key insights for your practice going into level 5?
As my practice going into level 5, all the ideas that I would get along the journey should be appreciated by me, regardless of what I think, either good or bad. This is because one day maybe the ideas that were given to me in the past, are ideas that give me inspirations now. In other words, never judge too quickly on anything that comes to me.
